Over a 35+ year career, I’ve worked inside organizations navigating growth, complexity, and mission at scale.

My leadership roles have included:

  • Chief Financial Officer at Ben & Jerry’s
  • Senior leadership roles at Seventh Generation
  • Founder and CEO of Working Fields, a social enterprise staffing company

Across these roles I’ve seen the same pattern repeatedly:

Growth often moves faster than financial structure.

When that happens, even strong organizations begin to feel strain beneath the surface.

But when financial foresight is built into leadership decisions, growth becomes far more durable.


Lessons From Building a Mission-Driven Company

One experience in particular shaped the work I do today.

Earlier in my career, I founded and led Working Fields, a staffing company designed to create employment opportunities for people in early recovery.

We operated for nearly a decade and created meaningful impact along the way.

Running that company taught me something that many mission-driven founders eventually discover:

Belief in the mission is powerful — but it does not replace financial discipline.

As founder and CEO, I was also responsible for the financial leadership of the organization. That dual role created a tension that many founders experience.

The CEO in me believed deeply in the mission and wanted to keep pushing forward.

The CFO in me understood the financial constraints.

Those lessons shaped how I work with founders today.

Mission deserves passion — but it also deserves the financial clarity that allows it to endure.

My role is not bookkeeping and not traditional fractional CFO work.
